Siam Rock

One couple, one night, five frames on Yaowarat. The only registre in the range named after a place instead of a light, and the only exception the studio allows itself.

( WRITTEN FIRST )
Light

The signage is the whole lighting plan. Shopfronts, tube lights, a tail lamp, and a wet road throwing all of it back up. No fill and no flash on the faces: the street lights them, which is why the colour on their skin changes from frame to frame.

Place

Yaowarat, designated street by street — the cinema sign, the metal shutter, the pillar on the corner. Precision comes from naming the place exactly, never from making it look run-down.

Camera

Eye level, standing back. The signage stacks behind the subjects and reads as depth instead of backdrop. Nothing is shot from above.

Wardrobe

One outfit across all five frames: white tank, red belt, wide black cargos, a chain. Repeating the wardrobe is what turns five night shots into a series.

Skin & grade

Matte and dry. The street is wet, the subjects are not. Real skin means pores, not blemishes, and nothing about them is worn out.
